Aspens, Lion's Gulch Trail

This past weekend, I finally got my BFF Liz to hike with us. Last weekend Mary Jean and Scott and I did a quick 5 mile hike up to Lake Haiyaha and this weekend we did a 6 mile hike up to Blue Lake. The colors were more spectacular on this hike. I don't think the Indian Peak area gets as much wind as RMNP. Lakes are so lovely in the fall. If you're on a trail toward one, there are always waterfalls that cascade down, sweeping up golden aspen leaves with them.

Anyway, Liz, who I hope is reading this, came along and she hiked faster than me! So here's my scolding to her: get your butt in gear girl and keep on coming with us! I'm determined to have her snowshoe and cross-country ski with us this winter.
I'm headed to the desert on Wed. I'm going with my friends Beth and Brian Sanders and their family, and several other folks to Moab. I should have some good photos to post on FB and on this blog when I get back. I am so excited about camping I can hardly wait. I have everything packed and ready in a corner of my room. The one item I have to remember to tuck in with my gear is a little journal so I can jot down images while Beth clicks away with her camera. Beth & I are trying to come up with a way to collaborate with my writing and her incredibly unique photography. I did manage to write one sestina to some of her photos of grasslands, but it wasn't good enough yet to read last night on The Poetry Show. I actually did pretty well on that show. I started off a little shaky (in my voice), but once I got going, I think I did fine. Afterwards, my son Bryon who lives in Fort Collins, from where the radio show is broadcast, met us for dinner and drinks. We also had the pleasure of dining with the show's host, Dona Stein, and Bryan Roth who edited my chapbook that, btw, is STILL FOR SALE on Main Street Rag's webpage. Go to www.mainstreetrag.com and then find the chapbook section and the COMING SOON page that is lit up in psychedelic, day-glo yellow. And buy my chapbook!

Speaking of writing, those of you who are in Boulder County may have received the first issue of a small magazine called Ecology Magazine: Colorado's Journal of Natural Science and Sustainable Living. If you did get it, you will see my article on page 22: "The Consolation of Alpine and SubAlpine Tundra Wildflowers in Rocky Mountain National Park." It's a new magazine, so naturally it doesn't have a marketing base yet and there were some grammatical errors in my article that I noticed were NOT there when I sent it in. So, the editing department needs some work. But overall, it's a nice start and God Bless them—I wish them luck. Magazines everywhere are struggling.

I've posted some photos of fall foliage from Lion's Gulch Trail. Enjoy this gorgeous season!
